    Downtown Preppers, they do exist!

    Hey,

I'm not sure what I would call it but I been preparing for several years. I live in downtown of a major city and I'm a recent college graduate. While in school I didn't have a car so getting supplies was always a challenge! I eventually started biking more and just making sure every time I came home from work, or running around the city I always came home with my backpack full of stuff. Now it's just second nature. I'm sure others think I'm weird but I'm used to it by now. I live in a tiny tiny studio apartment but I absolutely love it! I do drive more, but I still tend to stock up VERY heavy on supplies like food and such during spring and winter when the weather is nice, because it makes it far easier. Plus if something happens like a blizzard or a cold snap of -30 below for a solid week I get to stay home and be toasty warm and not have to worry!

I can't say I'm "black belt prepper" but, I'm happy. I even been watching many of these RV living channels and I been hooked! I have a small van that I put a bed in the back, and I have been working on rigging it out to be able to go camping on long trips out in the desert for a few weeks at a time. Havn't done it yet, money is tight, but not so tight that I can't get buy. All in good time, so until now I just wanted to see if I could find friends in a place like this. As my name Bernie-Bro says I support Bernie Sanders and I voted for him in the Primary, Voted for Jill in the election.. I'm not that interested in talking politics, I'm mostly an atheist and I'm a dog person. If you are also an urban prepper in a big city, feel free to say hi and PM me. Maybe we can exchange ideas, tips, and advice.

I'm very proud of what I have accomplished and I'm set on my lifestyle choices. I tried living in a rural community and I ABSOLUTELY HATED IT! I keep to myself in the city, but I enjoy being able to bike, and walk to most places. Oh and to hop the occasional train too. I enjoy my life. I'm not so concerned about a SHTF event of citywide unrest. But I have family and friends who live rural, plus in a few years my van should be read for me to live out of (more of a vacation instead of full time) so either way I'll be just fine so don't worry about me

Thanks for listening, and getting this far if ya did. Have a great.

Actually there is no need in prepping. It's just a waste of time, efforts and money. Since you support Bernie and if this country ever becomes a full blown Bernie socialist, the government will take care of you, For FREE. Just like Venezuela is taking good care of its citizens.

Welcome Bernie-Bro. I like dogs, believe in and love God, hate socialism. It's good you have friends and family in the country. You might want to consider keeping your foodpreps with them, because when the SHTF, if you stay in the city, you'll prolly die.

Bernie Sanders is unlike every other politician (excluding Ron Paul) who are bought and paid for by the highest campaigning financier. Actually fighting for what you believe in and fighting for the people you represent is something that is pretty refreshing. Hillary & Trump suck, they suck the money right out the the lobbiest hands and are ready to sell out the American people.. that is what really sucks.

No I assure you I am a real person, and I truly hold the beliefs that I do. An athist Bernie-Bro is not that uncommon around my community. They do exist, spooky spooky!

Not sure if you read my comment, of if you didn't understand my context. I am NOT a socialist, I am a Democratic-Socialist. YUGE difference. If you'd like we can discuss that more... but no the government will not take care of you. I still have a day job, I pay my rent, buy my food, and I live a pretty great life..

Now when it comes to healthcare, yea I think Medicare for ALL is a good thing. It actually would save $2 Billion at least, and that is from a republican study. (we can go over the facts if you'd insist, but that's kinda boring so lets not..) Paying taxes to offset healthcare costs doesn't change much... oh except for those insurance companies profiting on simply reselling services. Which, cutting out those middle men, saves $2 billion. Why would that be a bad thing? Every other modern country like Canada and Europe has the same system and they all pay LESS and get more coverage. I just don't get, why people who take time to actually inform themselves about what it REALLY means would opt. out... I assume it's ignorance, but your entitled to your beliefs and I support that so have a great day!

Damn, you cold. Not even a hello, nice to meet you and welcome? You just must not be that into being friendly and showing hospitality. That's OK, I guess I will welcome myself... I'm really a nice person, hope your not holding back bad things you want to say about me simply on my welcome message. Please have yourself a great day.

Thank you very much, I have family members who love God and the ones that have true love of God are some of the best people I know. Those that are doing it just for social status are some of the worst. My point being that those of true love of God are some of the nicest people and are good people to keep as lifetime friends. I don't keep my prep as a long-term solution. More of a way to live a better life during a snow storm or a long cold snap. My van I want to stockpile with some supplies to leave town if God-forbid, anything required me to. I wish I could be happy living in the country with a large plot of land and have my fruit trees and a large garden and do some major canning. That would be nice, but last time I lived in a rural setting I got way to depressed. It's just so quiet and underestimating. I enjoy the city life to much and I enjoy the sights the sounds and the diverse culture as well. We all have to enjoy life, the life not lived is a life well wasted. Still however there has to be balance between being to risky and being safe.. I think I found a balance that I find perfect for me... I understand many here would be considering my choices to risky and I understand that.. I come here hoping to find others more like me and not so opening willing to shame, mock, and belittle me for being an urban preper..

I guess no urban preper are watching the new member threads... Annie, do you know of any threads or groups on this forum that I would fit into more, and be able to find more people of similar ways of thinking? Any suggestions would be much appropriated. Thank you.

No difference. Call it what you wish, a pink fuzzy socialism, a cuddly "I feel good" socialism, or a democratic socialism, by any other name it is still socialism, the stepping stone to communism, and tyranny, responsible for millions of deaths and untold misery over the last century. It doesn't work, it has never worked, and it never will work.

The goal of socialism is communism.
