WEL Lutherans did not have chaplains in uniform. Man can not serve two masters. Our pastors were supported by us and not beholding the the government. We have had many serve service members. It became clear in the middle east wars that Chaplains were being put in their place and limited on what they were allowed to do. At one time that was one officer you did not mess with. Times have changed

The Missouri synod follows different teaching than WEL. We held it was up to us and not a government pay check to support them.
