Yeah, mine is a staking issue for sure.

I'd love to drill a hole but that's a small drill bit and not a lot of room to work with.

I'd give the gurus at Old Coleman Parts a jingle - OldColemanParts.com

you could have a direct clone there .... Coleman went to war in WW2 - it could be a sub contract deal from that era ....

Have bought a lot of parts from Oldcolemanparts, good place to get them from.

Like I said strip it down, you can lift the tabs of and remove the glass holder, which will give you room to flatten it, it won't take much.

It is from the 70's so not a WWII era.

    I'll try the board.

Coleman must have set up State Machine Parts to make the gooberment contract lanterns - had to be US made - must have dodged the higher priced union workers ....

Actually the holes where it goes through are not slotted so there must have been some sort of locking washer or something?

As I said, from 1965 through 1983 on the ones I have are staked in place, and there are no slots in the frame parts.

The staking (wings) both sides on each end were done at the same time as an assembly.

Look at the closeup I posted, yours should look like that.

Yes you are correct. However the staking did not work because from the start it was loose from lantern. Now I'm in a pickle it seems.

I will do so when I can. The holes are round and not oval so I can see why the staking would not work. The bail is staked 2x each side like your photo however.

Maybe take a washer, drill it to the exact size of the rod, cut out a pie shaped piece that doesn't quite reach the center of the hole and tap it on the rod.
