CATCHING HOGS, I FIND THIS THOUGHT PROVOKING.

There was a chemistry professor in a large college that had some exchange students in the class. One day while the class was in the lab, the professor noticed one young man, an exchange student, who kept rubbing his back and stretching as if his back hurt. The professor asked the young man what was the matter. The student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting communists in his native country who were trying to overthrow his country's government and install a new communist regime.
In the midst of his story, he looked at the professor and asked strange question. He asked: "Do you know how to catch wild pigs?"

The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch line.

The young man said that it was no joke. "You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come every day to eat the free corn. "When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the place where they are used to coming.

When they get used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn again and you put up another side of the fence. "They get used to that and start to eat again. You continue until you have all four sides of the fence up with a gate in the last side. "The pigs, which are used to the free corn, start to come through the gate to eat that free corn again. You then slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd.

Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and around inside the fence, but they are caught. Soon they go back to eating the free corn. They are so used to it that they have forgotten how to forage in the woods for themselves, so they accept their captivity."

The young man then told the professor that is exactly what he sees happening in America.

The government keeps pushing us toward Communism/Socialism and keeps spreading the free corn out in the form of programs such as supplemental income, tax credit for unearned income, tax exemptions, tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies, payments not to plant crops (CRP),
welfare, food stamps, medicine, drugs, etc., while we continually lose our freedoms, just a little at a time.

One should always remember two truths:
There is no such thing as a free lunch, and you can never hire someone to provide a service for you cheaper than you can do it yourself.

You know it's a well done story and visual of the events. What really saddens me is that our govt could do good. I mean it really could do good, but it's focused on more government and more control then good. I have often stated I would support more taxes if it was for something good. I believe strongly in capital investments by govt. but sadly our govt only seems to believe in owning your kids, your health care, your income, and your retirement.

I'm told by our govt there are 12 million people on unemployment? IDK what the number is and that isn't important. Unemployment is an insurance and I have no problem with it as a program, but too many used it as a paid vacation.

I recall our health care debate. I was told it was wrong for someone to lose it all (home, retirement, go bankrupt) over an illness or accident with injury. I agree with that. A problem was presented I agree there is a problem, but the solution is archiac at best. The solution would have been to demand ins company's who want to do business in our country offer the most basic of coverage for catastrophic events. Then to use our wealth as a nation (taxes) to flood our markets with health care so the costs could be reduced. That policy can be written in 3 pages, but we get 2,000 pages filled with new taxes, new fees, mandates, and a collectivist mess.

I totally dis agree. A government be nature is against any freedom or people doing for themselves. When any group has the ability, power or force to control anyone it will NEVER work out good for the people a government is suppose to represent!

The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter.
It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried.
Winston Churchill

The arguement can be made against government but without it, are we a country? I believe this is the worst administration ever in the history of our country and we may not see another the way it is going.

I am not saying that we should be without a government, but we need an altruistic government, run buy people who have the welfare of the entire country in their hearts. Not the idea of how I can make millions of dollars with the information I know or the laws I will create. Not with the idea of furthering the careers of my friends who will support my re-election so I can do it all over again. No so they can figure out how to give away the farm until there is no farm left to give away. If even 10% of the trillions of dollars are being wasted, that's 100 BILLION dollars. That's $285 dollars out of everybody's pocket, except for those who are too poor or too dishonest to pay their share. About $80 BILLION in just food stamps from the USDA will go out to the "poor" this year. The program was created to give food assistance to the poor, while helping bolster the dairy businesses, etc. Those fraudulently receiving assistance but high end meats, lobster, etc. that can quickly be sold for cash. That's bad enough but about 20 some years ago, the government decided that soda, shack foods, and other unwholesome stuff was ok to buy with assistance money. The purchase of soda is not something a child needs. Depending on who you read, the 40-60% of the money spent on assistance is BS. But then you get the proponents of Food stamps telling us that for every dollar the government spends on assistance, we get back $1.71. I guess that's the new math they've been teaching in school.

I'm not sure where I saw it but, "teach a man to fish and he'll feed himself and his family forever, Give a man a handout, and he'll vote for democrats for the rest of his life, and probably longer if he lives in Chicago.

I like this one too. Build a man a fire, he will be warm for tonight. Set a man on fire and he will be warm for the rest of his life.
Para, I think your right, the idea of the few politicos and their endless families and friends prospering from every single yes or no that they say.

I've never seen this printed elsewhere but it probably isn't a unique thought, spread it around.

With very few exceptions any time the Government passes a "law" it kills jobs

So the less laws you have the more jobs you have and vice versa

The key to making our country great again isn't through making more laws, it is in taking laws away, funny they never do that though they just keep layering on more and more regulations until nobody can do anything without breaking a law.

The rule of law makes us prosper, the abundance of laws stifles creativity and industry. In most cases today laws are designed to consolidate power in the hands of the few rather than create equal opportunity.

Cheers

How do we return Government to the people and make politicians responsible to WE THE PEOPLE again ?

If we got rid of this how fast could we get rid of our deficit problem ?

The Global Homeland Security Market is estimated to be $415.53 billion in 2013 and is expected to register a CARC of 5.54% to reach $544.02 billion by 2018.

Hey your link appears to be to a private email, but I'd like to see that. I don't recall HLS costing us anywhere near that unless DOD is included in which case it's not enough to illustrate what we spend,

To answer your question we ask our government to stop doing programs and start building solutions. Health care could be a great example. It's simply too expensive. We as a nation are paying too much. The answer is de regulation, increased competition and if necessary increased supply. To accomplish that we invest in medical schools, get the lawyers out of it, and make it so an insurance company can offer what they want. Here is a glaring example: in CA every medical insurance policy has to cover sex change operations. We all pay for it if we're covered. NO. The federal mandate should be to allow an insurance company to cover what they want, and if they offered basic preventive and catastrophic event care the costs would be dramatically less. Reduce the cost and more people will buy it, and the problems are reduced but not eliminated. We aren't going to eliminate problems, but we can reduce them.

We could apply a 1 cent per kilowatt hour utility tax and raise $50 billion a year. In 5 years we could use that to install solar systems on 10 million homes. Then end the tax. 8% of our residential electricity would then be clean, renewable, and off grid distribution which is peaked and a problem. Those homes getting the solar would still buy electricity and the money could be used to perpetuate the program beyond year 5 with out more taxes. The result is a decentralized power supply system. And a growing one which could be critical when our aging nukes can't be replaced and go off line (nukes are 21% right now).

I'd honestly agree to a 5% sales tax nationwide right now if govt agreed to stop growing and operate in the black. Our deficit is perhaps our greatest risk. Eliminate it and we eliminate the risk.
