How People React to Survival Situations.

BBC - Future - How to survive a disaster

Who lives and who dies when things go abruptly and incredibly horrible depends on how people immediately respond to the emergency.

The link is to an interesting article about different mindsets and reactions and how some will get you killed. Well worth taking the time to read.

I mentioned this in a different thread but we had a lock down at work a few months ago because of a perp with a gun. People lost their minds. Forgot all they had been taught about locking doors, staying quiet. It taught me a lot.

First you have to give up. First you have to know, not fear, know that someday you're going to die.

Excellent article. I've studied the sinking of the ferry Estonia in the Baltic. It's really an eye opener.

    My takeaway:

"Typically, survivors survive not because they are braver or more heroic than anyone else, but because they are better prepared."

I was okay with it until the last paragraph where he says "Chances are you'll never be in a disaster situation."
