I have been listening to the talking heads about this covid19 s hit,and if I understand them correctly, restaurants and bars can remain open until sometime in the early evening. Shortly after sunset, they must close. SOoooo, the virus is smart enough to know that the really large numbers of people in close proximity with bad health and judgments gather later in the night.
Just end your thanksgiving dinner before sunset and you are staying safe.

No worry here, there is just the two of us, everyone else is gone, save one brother in NC.

There has not been anyone of the immediate family around since 1995,

there are some cousins in Cali. and Arizona, no contact with any since about 1968.

We get a Frozen turkey breast and cook it up with all the fixin's,

we give some to the old lady neighbor, in the form of two complete plates worth.

The politico's in this state can go F*K themselves, were there family we would be together for the holidays.

Everyone that is staying home and skipping get togethers because of a 99% survivable virus.... probably doesn't understand their chances of getting in a car accident on the way to Thanksgiving EVERY OTHER YEAR...... but this is the hill for family gatherings to die on I guess. We are still having our Thanksgiving in the middle of Covid-19istan ND. some of my Lib out-of-state in-laws are staying hiding in their homes..

You know, if you believe in having the freedom to make your own choice, you shouldn't be shaming others for choosing different than you. It has to work both ways. That is freedom.

If someone chooses to not invite family, as usual, then you should celebrate their right to choose for themselves. Everyone has their own justifications and what they are is none of your business. That is a basic conservative principle. Could be they are just scared and don't want to take a 1% chance just for a meal. Could be they have family members with underlying health conditions that makes their chance of surviving infection much, much lower than 99%. I know in my case, our 100 year old aunt & 99 year old mom would probably stand around a 1% chance of survival if we brought the virus to them.

Whenever a holiday family get together is possible, you should go for it.

You never know when, at the next time? some could be gone for good.

One grandfather died Christmas eve 1951, that was the worst time of all, it took almost 10 years for the family to recover from that event.

Then on the fourth of January 1961, right after returning after Christmas leave from the army, my other grandfather passed away.

That kind of ruined the holidays for us as a family in general, but we had those memories to look back on.

Prior to those losses , there were 25 -30 adults and kids gathered for thanksgiving and Christmas.

The kids would sit in the living room together at a fold up table, while the adults were in the dining room.

The grandparents home we dined in, owned a night club and ballroom /restaurant combined, all the food was cooked there and brought home.

After the meal, most got of the adults got plastered on the booze that they had made in the still,

people still wanted the stuff and it was made until around the end of WW2 even with the war rationing.

I'm not shaming any of them.... My mother has already said she is not coming for christmas due to being scared of covid, doesn't stop her from having gatherings at her house or heading to other states for her dog shows.... her (and many other's) priorities are screwed up... if there is a global pandemic killing everyone and you have just as likely chance of dying from it hiding in your home as you do spending it with family, on your deathbed, I believe you will wish you had spent more time with your family.. but that's just me.
