Pretty sure those guys would have run from a 10-22, maybe a red ryder. AR is a good reliable platform, but a bit under powered in 5.56, again just my personal opinion.

OK, I don't "need " my AR's or AK's but that has nothing to do with my WANT of one or more as the case may be.

Besides, I have subguns to fill the gap just like in WW-2.

I have plenty of shotguns, but don't care that much for them.

I guess the rifleman thing was well bred into me in the army.

Here is a picture of just three of them, these are just the Ithaca's.

I love M37s. I got one for a Christmas present from my parents, 26" slug barrel and 28" modified, 1960s vintage.

All three of these are ex police riot guns, the two eight shot ones came from my brothers estate 12 years ago, and are brand new unfired.

The 18" I have had for at least 3 decades, it sits next to my bed loaded with OO buck, has a tritium front sight.

the other two are too long for in house action and reside with food stores in other locations with a case of OO buck for each..

My best in house long guns are my 5.56 AR Galil with a standard folding stock and 35 round mags, and then my Thompson which I would

    hesitate to use for SD.

To get real serious, My next move would be to my ARM 308 Galil with standard folding stock and 25 round mags.

There are 9 or 10 shotguns in inventory, I forget how many.

I need an AR 'cuz I'm too old to run and too young to die.

Dammit, I want every advantage I can have if it's a matter of me v. the BG. To hell with the 'you don't need 30 rounds to hunt' eff-wads, the '5 shots is more than enough' dipsticks, and Creepy Joe with his 'just get a shotgun'.

My AR was purchased for home defense, and is set up to do just that. Always accessible and loaded 30+1, with 4 more mags handy.

I have a .22LR rifle and a pistol, to boot. I always believed that if and when TEOTWAWKI hits us, a .22 anything would be the better weapon.

Yes, I have the requisite 1911 pistol and lots of scary knives. But a large clip of .22s and careful aim will dissuade scads of potential thugs.

I've paired a Walther P22 with a Henry AR-7 for buggin' out. Just looking down the barrel of either one will cause a few folks to make a fudge factory out of their Fruit-on-the-Looms.

Very few things say leave me the #*%@ alone quite like a high capacity, semi-automatic rifle pointed at someone’s face.

A 12 gauge pump loaded with slugs comes pretty close, though.

Free state? Welcome to America from Quebec!

We used to be free, even shot some British. I live in Wisconsin, and yes we have rifles. But our local taxes make sure we have no ammunition...
