Food Rations Bars or Emergency Food Buckets??

I understand rations have short shelf life but I have no job really (im younger then 16) so buying a year supply of emergency food buckets is expensive. I save over $5,000 buy choosing rations. I could restore this dead swamp and put some bluegill, bass, and catfish in there with that money. I am stuck, but I am really leaning towards the rations. Is it still safe to eat em after their 5 year shelf life?

Maybe. The FDA forces expiration dates to be put on everything. Other than perishables like milk, they will probably last longer than the date. If it looks, tastes or smells funny pass on it. Having something is better than nothing.

My Mountain House in the pouch says 5 years shelf life while the cans are 25 years. Like Camel said if it doesn't look or smell right dump it,if It'good than eat it.
