Free Michigan Junior Deer Hunting License

DNR - Free junior deer hunting licenses available at Meijer stores Sept. 9-10, 2016

Free junior deer hunting licenses available at Meijer stores Sept. 9-10, 2016

Young hunters, ages 16 and younger, once again will have the opportunity to get a free junior deer hunting license at all Meijer stores in Michigan Sept. 9 and 10.

Youths must be accompanied by an adult, and should print out and bring the free junior deer hunting license coupon to the store's sporting goods department.

The coupon is valid for a single junior deer hunting license, a $20 value, or mentored youth hunting license. Those who hunt in Michigan also must purchase a base license, which costs $6 for youths ages 10-16. The base license allows hunters to hunt small game and purchase additional hunting licenses. The mentored youth hunting license, valid only for hunters under the age of 10, includes a base license and does not require separate purchase of the base license. Here is the link to the coupon:

Grand Rapids, Michigan-based Meijer has offered youth hunters free deer hunting licenses since 2008.

I'm surprised MI doesn't have an exclusion on 16 and younger children not needing a hunting license to hunt as long as they are with a licensed hunter over 21.

I got snowed in and my flight was cancelled in Grand Rapids one winter and there was a Meijer's within walking distance of my hotel. I must admit I was impressed with how they kept the store up and running during a mini SHTF situation.

Yeah, our state is cheap, been controlled by the socialist for a long time until lately. We recently won our right for concealed carry. It used to be you had to go before a gun board and plead your case for why you want to carry. You still have to get a pistol permit to purchase a hand gun. Fishing is still free for 16 and under. When I first came home from active duty in GA and tried to register my hand guns the chick at the counter started to freak out about me possessing un registered firearms. I finally told her to piss off and get a supervisor. She got a city police LT. and I told him what the deal was. He just looked at her like she was stupid and he told her to register them. Case closed. I hate ignorant people. But yeah, the stores don't like to close for crap during the winter. The people up here are used to the weather. Its the Dumb flat landers from down south (Detroit and other southern cities in Michigan) that drive crazy. Some think that just because they own a 4X4 they can drive any way they want. They soon find out that they cant when they spin out and get stuck in the median.
