That works just as well as any other. Several people have done tests on the cheaper brands and every test met or exceeded mil specs.
Just be sure it's actually tested. What some call "paracord" is not true 550.

I've bought cord from a dollarstore that was about twice the diameter of paracord.
Don't ask me how I know this, but a single length of it will snap on a hammock. Less than 10 seconds with one adult.

You shouldn't be using paracord for a hammock either. Dynamic loading can way exceed 550 lbs. That's why experienced hangers use dyneema. 1/8 in is 2500 lb break strength.
