    Special considerations. Lightning.

It occurred to me that many of us are carrying large amounts of gear, much of which is metal. Also bug out locations may be vulnerable to lightning as well.

Has anyone given special thought or considerations to how lightning may or may not affect their systems and plans?

Lightning rods, plan for being caught in a lightning storm, etc?

I've had that plan since I was 12. We get a lot of thunderstorms.

I am familiar with basic lightening safety and I am pretty sure I know when to come in out of the rain...lol!

Lol I'd hope most people did. I'm more referring to being caught out "in the field" in a lightning storm, and lightning rods or similar structural protection.

What great luck that would be. Survive the end of times and then get struck by lightning.

Honestly, I can't prepare for everything. Lightning is going to have to be one of those things that just happens and I figure out how to deal with it.

That's exactly why I brought this up. Being prepared for lightning is super easy and can be done super cheap. Lightning rods are (more or less) steel cables run up the side of the building with little antennas at the top and a deep steel stake at the bottom.

Being caught in the field requires no equipment (actually grounding your gear is the plan, so literally no equipment) and just a little foresight. Almost entirely a matter of basic understanding of lightning/electricity and how to not be a target.

A strike on your home has to be a very low probability event. Otherwise you would see more lightning rods than you do. It's low on my list of preps.

Where I am in Texas I see them on nearly every major structure. New York was the same. With the number of strikes we had just last night I would say it warrants at least some thought.

    I stand corrected.
