    Fire starter

I know that dryer lint has been touted as tinder, but what is punk or punky wood? Is it just rotten wood? I have several oak limbs that have fallen out of trees in my yard that are rotten. Occasionally a pine limb too.

Punky wood is not rotten...yet...but well on it's way.

It's generally caused by a fungus, As Robie said, it's right on the edge of starting to rot.

Most times punk wood is charred and kept on hand as it is quick to take an ember.

Lots pf videos out there on methods.

Little gas and a match works for me. Maybe a small amount of diesel or motor oil if it's wet or damp.
