    Let me also say well done. Speaking as a paramedic and a paramedic instructor you did everything right from what I read. Stayed calm, controlled the bleeding and applied a splint. Only after that did you attempt self-rescue back to your car. I've seen bystanders panic (probably much like your friends were doing) injuries and illnesses that were not nearly as severe as yours appeared to be. Best of luck on your recovery. Bravo Zulu!

    Good job. A open fracture would rattle most people, but you talked your buddies through the steps; because they were the ones who were rattled, not you.
    I used to carry a Combat Lifesaver bag, with a SAM splint in it, and it is a very good thing to have around. This is a good post.
