Why build it? When you can buy it off the shelf?

Seems like every time I DIY build something like a light or what ever someone has got ask,,
Why build it if you can buy it off the shelf?

Because what I build is better than what you can buy off the shelf and when it's done I know what
every part does and how to fix it. And,,,,,,,,

If you need to ask that question you wouldn't understand the anwser

Sometimes I build something simply because there isn't such an item on the open market. Yes, there may be something similar, but not precisely like what I want.

I usually build something because I CAN'T find it on the shelf.

Oftentimes I am accused of over-engineering what I build which is usually something built from large pieces of wood with simple square cuts and mechanical heavy duty fasteners. Things that will be there long after I am gone.

Build / make a lot of thing around here as other have said not something I can go get or I need it now.
One example need to build our own lower rear bracket for the sidecar move to the Street 750. The so called universal fit would not work and no one makes a mount for a Street. So we made our own.
Same with the upper rear we made it. I do try to separate building something and Assembling something from pre-made parts

I custom build stuff all the time for the same reason that I can't buy it. This doesn't apply to weapons though. They are so cheap right now it doesn't work out IMHO.

I don't know,,,,,,, Parts are cheap also. $199 for a complete upper 129 for a complete lower? $329 and your shooting
Or build your lower for $110 and a $199 upper use the 10% off coupon and it's like $287 <-- Hard to buy an AR that price.
