The saying is "The country goes as California goes". You better hope that isn't true. CA has turned into a cesspool because of poor leadership. You want a glimpse of your future look no further than Progressive California.

@Sasquatch, I think that "mankind" is a bell-shaped curve. Even if we zapped every Californian derelict right off the map, we would then be forced to recognize their "cousins" and their unique insanity as they rampaged through Arizona. There will always be "the worse case."

Take my home of Wisconsin. Change of seasons. Lots of charitable projects. Clean factories to work in. And people who strive to help. Yet, we have the same breed of derelicts you do. Now, we do not have a logo depicting Wisconsin burning, but we have our fair share of idiots and interlopers trying to rig the system as they sleep on the sidewalks.

"The poor will always be with you." Some famous, intelligent Man said that. True then, true now.

That's the thing. CA has always had poor and homeless but now it is out of control. Once anything gets out of control the end is soon to follow.

I think I would have to fall back on the intelligent and terse discourse of James Tiberius Kirk. He was also faced with being overrun by a faction that never had respected his values. He wrapped up his counter-point beliefs within three words, and those words apply here.

They are so stupid but yet convinced they are the ones who know best. Complete morons and the idiotic masses vote them in. Clearly a case of sum and dumber except for the puppet masters that are in true control.

High tech does its part not to clean the streets but to create defecation apps that electronically warn tourists and hoi polloi how to avoid walking blindly into piles of sidewalk excrement. In Californian logic, public defecation butts up against progressive tolerance, so it is exempt from the law. Yet for a suburbanite to build a patio without a permit, for example, costs one dearly in fines. Indeed, a new patio without a permit can be deemed more dangerous to the public health than piles of excrement in the public workplace.
That excerpt says it all: there are piles of poo on the sidewalk; but you better not build without a permit, because the MAN will getcha!
Somehow that is Hippy logic; and those are they, that cannot draw any valid conclusions from reality; and they cannot learn to be sensible.

That is another facet of Hippy logic, they cannot learn from everyday life, because there is some intellect that is missing in them.
However, they can nuance a thing to death; so that they can see shades of difference where no are present. But they can't build latrines for the wanderers.

I am reading The 9/11 Commission Report, and I am about 1/4 of the way through it. It is very well written and it is worth reading. [Sep 23 2019]

    What three words?

California foreshadows where this country is going. It's precisely where Bernie, Harris, Warren, and the rest of the socialist want to go. I'll bet none of the issues facing California will be addressed in the circus debates over the next two days.
