    Which pressure cooker/canner?

    My wife was wanting one for Christmas and I would rather buy an American product.

    anyone using the All American 921 setup? Definitely worth the money?

    The All American's are fantastic! You won't be sorry you spent the extra $.

    I just ordered it for her. 253 bucks later (I also ordered a full GI Field Issue medical kit as well) Christmas is over for her.

    We use the Presto 16 qt. for pressure canning and a glazed steel pot with lid and wire rack for non pressurized canning. The number one issue for us was getting a big enough pressure canner. It takes a while to go through a cycle with the pressure canner and it's nice to speed up the process by being able to do more jars per...a 16 qt. is about the smallest one that still gets the job done with out taking a huge ammount of time...

    We have the Mirro-matic 16 qt and the 8 qt older ones for pressure canning and the same glazed set up for hot water bath .

    I have an All American and love it. A pressure cooker and a pressure canner are two different things, FYI.

    I know a pressure COOKER uses heat and pressure to cook foods faster. You can make even a cheap roast into something great with a pressure cooker. My Mom used to use hers for beef tongue.

    I bought the wife the Pressure CANNER from All American. She already has a pot for non pressure canning. She has made a ton of jams, jellies, apple butter, peach butter, squash butter and the like. Our property has raspberry vines, apple trees, huckleberrys, peaches, cherries and plums. So, she has been busy.

    We purchased a steer this year, and we just had it butchered a few weeks ago. I figured on cooking up some of the roasts and then canning them, as well as green beans, carrots, peas and some other veggies.

    Joining this forum has gotten expensive for me! I just ordered a pair of the Rat Boots because it was such a good deal. Now after reading about pressure cookers/canners, I just ordered one. I ordered the All American 15 1/2 qt model. It'll store a bit easier than the 921. I remember as a kid spending summers at both of my grandmother's houses, and both of them and my aunts and mom all canned late in the summer/early fall when stuff got ready to harvest. They did peas, corn, green beans, beets, jams and jellies, sweet and dill pickles. If the Mayans were wrong, my wife and I will be taking up a new "hobbie" next fall. If they were right, I won't be paying for the canner anyway, cause I got it from Amazon on their credit card with no interest if paid off in 6 months. And if the Mayans were right, I'll never make a payment, nor will I ever get to can.
