I have pinto beans, white rice, flour, corn meal, baking powder, sugar, instant potatoes, instant non fat milk, instant eggs, pasta, oatmeal, salt, pepper & other spices.

I pack these items "in their original packaging" into 5 gallon Home Depot buckets. I put two 2000 cc oxygen absorbers into the buckets. One in the bottom, and one at the top of the bucket. I have some of each randomly in the buckets. Example.. In one bucket I may have beans, rice, and corn meal. In another bucket I may have pasta and milk. I label the buckets with contents and date. Then I seal the lid with non toxic silicone and put them in a dark room in my basement.

Should I be emptying the contents into Mylar with oxygen absorbers instead of leaving them in their original packaging. If so, please explain. And could I just use cheaper zip locks instead of Mylar?

Thanks.

Greetings: I have a unique situation. I have 5 acres of land and we are about to fence the area. I am trying to decide which type would be best to not only keep people out but keep in too. I have a 4 year old son who has Autism and is prone to climb and run off for an adventure which is very dangerous. So I not only need to keep out but keep in and still not be too dangerous that he could seriously hurt himself if he tried to climb it.

I'm thinking the black iron no climb fence with the spike on the top but those are crazy expensive for 5 acres. Thought about building my own cinder block wall but not sure if I want to be able to see out or not or the pros and cons to that. We've thought about regular fence with a no climb netting on both sides. Trying not to spend a crazy amount but still need to protect my family in both fashions. Thoughts?

In the year 2013, the Lord came unto Noah, Who was now living in America and said:
"Once again, the earth has become wicked and over-populated, and I see the end of all flesh before me."
"Build another Ark and save 2 of every living thing along with a few good humans."

He gave Noah the blueprints, saying:
"You have 6 months to build the Ark before I will start the unending rain for 40 days and 40 nights."
Six months later, the Lord looked down and saw Noah weeping in his yard - but no Ark."Noah!," He roared, "I'm about to start the rain! Where is the Ark?"

"Forgive me, Lord," begged Noah, "but things have changed."
"I needed a Building Permit."
"I've been arguing with the Boat Inspector about the need for a sprinkler system."

"My homeowners association claim that I've violated the
Neighborhood by-laws by building the Ark in my back yard and exceeding the height limitations. We had to go to the local Planning Committee for a decision."

"Then the City Council and the Electricity Company demanded a shed load of money for the future costs of moving power lines and other overhead obstructions, to clear the passage for the Ark's move to the sea. I told them that the sea would be coming to us, but they would hear none of it."

"Getting the wood was another problem. There's a ban on cutting local trees in order to save the Greater Spotted Barn Owl."

"I tried to convince the environmentalists that I needed the wood to save the owls - but no go!"

"When I started gathering the animals, PETA took me to court. They insisted that I was confining wild animals against their will. They argued the accommodations were too restrictive and it was cruel and inhumane to put so many animals in a confined space."

"Then the Environmental Protection Agency ruled that I couldn't build the Ark until they'd conducted an environmental impact study on Your proposed flood."

"I'm still trying to resolve a complaint with the Human Rights Commission on how many minorities I'm supposed to hire for my building crew."

"The Immigration Dept. Is checking the visa status of most of the people who want to work."
"The labor unions say I can't use my sons. They insist I have to hire only union workers with ark-building experience."

"To make matters worse, the IRS seized all my assets, claiming I'm trying to leave the country illegally with endangered species."
"So, forgive me, Lord, but it would take at least 10 years for me to finish this ark."

"Suddenly the skies cleared, the sun began to shine and a rainbow stretched across the sky."

Noah looked up in wonder and asked, "You mean you're not going to destroy the world?"

"No," said the Lord. " The Government beat me to it."

One of the reason I only own metals for SHTF and don't invest in them is that its pretty obvious the market place for metals is heavily manipulated. Yesterday there was a story about George Soro's selling gold and today there are a least 3 pundit / reports saying how its correction needs to continue, is over due, etc etc.
Jim Rogers on Gold: Continues to Have a Long Overdue Correction | Daily Ticker - Yahoo! Finance

With the powers that be capable of manipulating the metals its amazing any one would want to invest in them. I continue to hold 1 ounce of silver for every $1000 in debt I have (which is against property) and plenty of pre - 64 silver coins for barter but I could never buy a metal like a share of stock or something else for investment.

By the way does anyone have any good links to viable information about the "short sell" 3 days ahead of the Gold Price Drop that was supposedly by the FED or the US Treasury or one of these entities?

BetrayedAmerican here,

I have been gone for the last year and a half, serving in Afghanistan. It was over there that I decided that the prepper life is the one that I need to live. There are so many different things that are involved with prepping. I once thought that getting an AR-15 was my most important priority as they are amazing weapons, reliable and strong. It was this reason that I collected some Mags while deployed...

I currently have 12 metal military grade AR-15 platform mags in plastic and three used and tested mags from over there. In this hard time, fighting for every bit of currency as possible I see no AR in my near or possibly late future for that matter. It is for this reason that I am posting here on this site filled with fellow preppers my mags. I am willing to sell one at a crack or all as a bundle. I am not going to put a price on them. I am surrounded by friends and it is for that reason if anyone is interested just let me know and let me know what you can afford as I am sure the hit on the wallet is not just a problem for me. Thanks again.

I naturally will pay packaging and shipping insurance.

Thank you all again.

The Weather Alert Radio - A Sentinel for the Switched-On Prepper

I live in an area that has severe thunderstorms during the late spring and all summer long, and the winds generated by these storms are powerful, and...

I live in an area that has severe thunderstorms during the late spring and all summer long, and the winds generated by these storms are powerful, and often lead to tornadoes being touched off. This happening at night while you are sleeping can result in an untimely death of you and your loved ones, as just happened in Texas.

I bought a Midlands weather radio a few years back, and use it all the time for monitoring weather, and for alerting me to NOAA weather warnings and alerts at night.

These work off the SAME (Specific Area Message Encoder) system, which is a special signal now included with weather service broadcasts to pinpoint alert areas within their broadcast range.

The SAME codes allow you to program the weather alert radio to your specific county, so you are not bothered by alerts all the time, but still receive alerts pertinent to your area.

This model has standard AC power and offers an optional 4 AA batteries backup power source in case your power gets knocked out. You can also power it off of 12 volt batteries in your vehicle or vessel.

It has a telescopic antenna, and also allows you to tune in FM radio broadcasts, so you can listen to the radio to music you like, and it switches automatically if an alert or warning is issued.

You can also add an external antenna, a strobe light (to help wake you up), or even a pillow vibrator (I am not going to touch that line....) using accessory jacks on the unit. It also has a wall bracket if you are so inclined.

I like having this in our master bedroom, and have it programmed for severe thunderstorms, tornado watches, and tornado warnings.

It also allows you to program in fires, hurricanes, floods, flash floods, avalanches, radiological alerts, hazardous material alerts, earthquakes and tsunamis.

It has a warning siren, with high or low settings, and that siren will wake you up. Especially if you sleep with a dog in the room who howls at sirens....

If you don't have one of these, I urge you to consider buying one - it really could save your life some day. And you can get a weather report anytime, day or night.

I had stated before I was going to keep from shooting at home as common courtesy to my neighbors, for a little while anyways.

Well it seems the neighbors don't know or care about the 6' leash law for dogs. I've had a shepard/husky mix about 80 lbs and a cocky Jack Russell pooping on the land the last few days. The husky mix growled today while I was staring at the garden and the lightbulb went on.

While cleaning out Mom's van for a saleI found 2 boxes of 20 ga game loads in the rear glovebox soaking in about 2" of water. I took some 80 grit to sand off the rust on the steel, put a couple in my Westernfield bolt and pulled the trigger, while aiming safely at my pistol berm.

I hit the target with the wad, and Little Jack literally had the shat scared of of him, he was close enough to tell when he lifted his leg to scent my tree.

Maybe my neighbor will wake up and secure her critters ::clapping::

I have 40 rounds of rusty game loads left to use for this purpose. How things change.

It's legal to shoot, illegal for dogs to run loose:-o

SA sports fury, crossbow package deal-bow, quiver, four aluminum bolts, four field tips, sling, scope, cocking device. $158 from amazon.
Read all the reviews I could, mostly great, and decided to get one. super fast shipping. comes unassembled. Was an easy enough process of assemlbly, came with all required tools, except a phillips screwdriver.
After reading the reviews, I knew it would be an easy assembly. Had a friend help install the bowstring, could have done it alone, but much easier to accomplish with four hands.
Be sure to check all bolts and screws before heading out for first shoot, I had installed the scope, and was trying to zero, when I found the scope was loose inside the rings..
Ok, onto the fun stuff...Cocking with the rope device is simple, lines up the string in close proximity every time. The crossbow itself feels great. Shoots very well for a "low end" piece. After I checked initial sightin, bottom right on a 8 X 11 piece of paper at 15 yards, I slowly began working the adjustments on the scope, bringing it up and left. After tightening the scope rings, on my next batch of four bolts I was close. I have never adjusted a scope before, so I took small calulated clicks. On the ninth and tenth shot, they were dead on. The wind was picking up, and daylight was fading fast, so I stopped. Still need to decide if Im going to use the lower recticle crosshairs on the scope, or try the elevation adjustment build under the scope.
I would highly recomend this crossbow for any beginner, (me), and some of the middle/upper experienced people.

pros- easy to shoot, sighted in great, anyone could now put three arrows tightly on a bullseye, the crosshairs take away all the guessing.
- recurve, can be restrung in the field.
- removable quiver, so it can be shot like a gun, off a rest.
-great weight/feel/look. Everyone at work is impressed with the "fit and feel" of this CB
- great price for "testing the water", alot of barnnett and other crossbow users say they have this as a backup. I am very pleased with the pricetag.
- order 20" carbon bolts as replacements.
- literally has everything you need to start shooting.

cons-havent found any yet, but am still not sighted in for longer range shots yet. Also, need to switch to one of my broadheads, just to make sure everything is kosher.

will order a backup string or three, and will stockpile some bolts and field tips.
I ordered some cheap broadheads, From Leon's experience, and mine, a broadhead is a broadhead, no reason to go all out crazy.
Overall. a great combo package. i hope to kill a turkey soon.
